Primarily, books should entertain children at a level that isn’t embarrassing, neither for them nor for myself as a writer. Secondly, they should explain a piece of the world to them. And then my books seem to do something else, as many adults tell me: 'Your books saved me during puberty, they comforted me so much.' I’m happy to hear that, of course, but it was never my intention.”
